The importance of trees, hedgerows and woodlands within the planning process has increased significantly in recent years, promoted nationally and locally in new planning policy documents and industry guidance. Trees are a material planning consideration and Local Planning Authorities usually require relevant information to support planning applications where trees are identified on or adjacent to development sites. Typically baseline information is at registration stage.

Aspect products and services are specifically designed to meet clients’ needs; enabling us to be engaged at a level appropriate to the scale of the project. Trees can greatly enhance the value of a development but only when they are successfully designed into the scheme. Our aim is to ensure that a harmonious and sustainable level of development is reached either by integrating and retaining key site features or by helping to successfully mitigate any significant losses.
Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
Aspect consultants have experience in Environmental Impact Assessment. EIAs are commonly collaborations involving an array of specialists at a pre-application or strategic level. We work closely with professionals from other disciplines to provide baseline studies and informed impact assessments. By gathering data at an early stage in the strategic planning process, the significance of any negative impacts can be quantified and their mitigation designed and implemented.
Trees, Sunlight and Skylight
Trees, hedges, buildings and topography can all have negative or positive effects on the levels of sunlight or skylight external to, or within buildings. Local Planning Authorities are now actively encouraged by the NPPF to demand demonstration of compliance with all relevant parts of; BRE209; BS5837; BS8206-2; and ODPM High Hedges. Aspect employs in house specialists in this subject offering various levels of survey, calculation and report – to suit every type of project and problem (from single dwellings to masterplan layouts). Results can be presented in a range of formats – from simple plans and graphs to 3D models and animations in real time. These will demonstrate the issues, provide arboricultural justification and inform building design solutions.
